Rema Hort Mann Fund Hosts its Milestone Auction in Partnership with Phillips to Benefit the Expansion of its Grantmaking—the Artists Living with Cancer Grant
Benefit Art Auction Features 85+ Emerging and Established Artists to Raise Critical Funds for Quality-of-Life Support for Vulnerable Artists Facing Cancer
NEW YORK, NY - OCTOBER 15, 2026 — The Rema Hort Mann Fund (RHMF) is pleased to present its roster of generous artists participating in the 30th Anniversary Gala and Art Auction taking place at Tribeca Rooftop on 28 October, presented in partnership with Phillips. With a 230-year legacy stewarding important works of Modern and Contemporary Art, Phillips brings RHMF’s anniversary auction to its international community of collectors and supporters who share our reverence for artists pushing the boundaries of creative expression while shaping today’s culture.
To commemorate the celebration, over 85 artworks will be offered at auction over the course of ten days through both an online sale at Phillips and in person at the gala’s live auction. Works have been generously donated by emerging and established artists alike, including RHMF Emerging Artists Fellowship Grant alums. Supporters who can't attend in person are encouraged to register to bid by phone.
The celebration, held once-every-five-years, marks 30 years of championing 650+ emerging artists and providing quality-of-life support to 2,400+ cancer patients and their families. The auction serves as the Fund’s single most important fundraising vehicle, raising crucial proceeds to support RHMF's recently expanded grant initiatives: the Artists Living with Cancer Grant, the Emerging Artists Fellowship Grant, and the Peter Hort Quality of Life Grant.
RHMF’s Artists Living with Cancer Grant was inspired by Jacolby Satterwhite’s public campaign in which he courageously raised funds to pay for life-saving surgery addressing an infection in his shoulder, a complication from post-cancer care. His experience highlighted a glaring vulnerability facing today’s artists: when illness affects an artist’s ability to create, their livelihoods, financial stability, and access to safe recovery are put in jeopardy.
Carole Server, Board Chair, reflected, “I think the quality of the artists and the work really reflects artists’ commitment to supporting their community. Everyone has been touched by cancer in one way or another, some personally and some through friends or loved ones, and I think that connection is really what made this auction so special. We were able to bring together amazing artists and fabulous works because they wanted to support their community and the artists living with cancer who are part of it.”
Satterwhite's history with the fund long precedes the grant. He has known Board Chair, Carole Server, a collector of his work and friend, for over a decade. As a two-time survivor diagnosed with bone cancer at age 11, his experience became the impetus for RHMF’s Artists Living with Cancer Grant. He will be the inaugural recipient of the grant, receiving a special recognition of $25,000 in partnership with the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation. This grant, launching immediately after the fête, will support 10 additional artists in the NYC Metro area battling the disease with unrestricted grants of at least $10,000 each. The timing is especially consequential for independent artists navigating today’s ever-changing healthcare landscape while having inconsistent income.
Elysia Borowy, Executive Director of RHMF, shared, “We have something for everyone in this auction—that was intentional. I profoundly thank our participating artists, galleries, RHMF leadership, and our Host Committee for coming together in support of this cause. It hits home for so many of us, and we need you. I hope every one of your bids is a winning bid and, more importantly, that you find something you love and feel good about taking home.”
Annie Dolan, Phillips’ Senior Specialist, Head of Auctions, New York, said, “Phillips is honored to partner with the Rema Hort Mann Fund on this milestone event and to support an organization whose impact has been so meaningful over the past 30 years. The generosity of the participating artists and galleries is a powerful reflection of the strength and compassion of this community. It is incredibly rewarding to help bring these exceptional works to collectors in support of a cause that will directly benefit artists facing one of life's most difficult challenges.”
As RHMF moves forward into the next decade, we celebrate and thank the generous artists in the auction who embody the Fund’s vision of sustained opportunity and dignity for artists, and quality of life for cancer patients and their families for the next 30 years.
