The Artists Living With Cancer Grant is a new pillar of the Rema Hort Mann Fund, and speaks to both organizations' long history of providing artists with emergency support.

NEW YORK, NY — July 15, 2026 —
The Rema Hort Mann Fund (RHMF) and the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation today announced the Artists Living with Cancer Grant, a $25,000 unrestricted award to artist Jacolby Satterwhite. The award marks the first co-presented grant between the two organizations and introduces Artists Living with Cancer as a new pillar within RHMF's commitment to supporting artists through health crises. Satterwhite will be presented with the inaugural grant, and honored at Rema Hort Mann Fund’s 30th anniversary gala on October 28, 2026.

The Artists Living with Cancer program builds on RHMF’s legacy of rapid-response Peter Hort Quality of Life Cancer Grants, addressing the urgent financial and emotional challenges patients  face during active treatment, and reinforcing care as a core equity issue. Rooted in compassion, dignity, and urgency, the program affirms that no artist should have to choose between treatment and survival, preserving not only individual well-being but also the broader cultural contributions of artists.

“I’m grateful to the Rema Hort Mann Fund and The Robert Rauschenberg Foundation for understanding that an artist’s life and an artist’s practice are not separate, and that to support an artist’s health is to support the arts,” says Jacolby Satterwhite. “This grant comes at a time when affordable healthcare is scarce, not just for artists, but for everyone. I applaud the collaboration and hope that it inspires change.”

“The Rema Hort Mann Fund is thrilled to unveil this new grant program, and are honored to do so with The Robert Rauschenberg Foundation, in support of Jacolby Satterwhite–a beloved artist whose work encourages us to imagine new worlds, and whose personal story does the same,” says Carole Server, Board Co-Chair of the Rema Hort Mann Fund.

The inaugural Artists Living with Cancer Grant is presented in partnership between the Rema Hort Mann Fund and The Robert Rauschenberg Foundation, two non-profits dedicated to supporting all aspects of artists’ lives—especially in times of crisis. Robert Rauschenberg started his non-profit Change, Inc. in 1970, focused on providing grants to professional artists of all disciplines in need of emergency medical aid. In this spirit, since 2020 the Foundation has partnered with New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) to administer Rauschenberg Emergency Medical Grants to artists in financial need who otherwise might delay critical treatment or incur substantial debt. Since 2022, The Foundation has also funded the Rauschenberg Dancer Emergency Grants program through NYFA.

“Robert Rauschenberg understood the need to provide urgent and treatment-related financial stability to artists at moments when care is critical, and the Foundation is honored to carry this mission forward by co-presenting the Artists Living With Cancer grant,” says Courtney J. Martin, Executive Director of The Robert Rauschenberg Foundation. “We are especially honored to support Jacolby Satterwhite. We applaud the interdisciplinary nature of Jacolby’s practice and his commitment to engaging diverse communities and audiences, never allowing his illness to limit the ambition or scope of his work.”

An interdisciplinary artist whose many public commissions and exhibitions engage new mediums and audiences alike, Jacolby Satterwhite is an exemplar of artistic excellence, resilience, community-building, and care. The Artists Living with Cancer Grant is designed to support artists like him, as well as the people they inspire.

“As we celebrate 30 years of impact, we are reminded that meaningful change is only possible through generosity, vision, and partnership with our community,” says Elysia Borowy, Executive Director of the Rema Hort Mann Fund. “We are honored to partner with the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation in presenting this inaugural Artists Living with Cancer Grant to Jacolby Satterwhite. Together, we are building a stronger network of care and support for artists facing cancer.”

Further information about the Artists Living with Cancer Grant program will be released at a later date.

About the Rema Hort Mann Fund

The Rema Hort Mann Fund was established on our deep belief in the healing powers of creativity and community. In our work, we’ve discovered meaningful kinship and connection between emerging artists and individuals battling cancer. We celebrate their shared spirit of bravery, resilience, and hope as a community, and we empower their individual journeys toward healing and artistic creativity.

About the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation
The Robert Rauschenberg Foundation builds on the legacy of artist Robert Rauschenberg, emphasizing his belief that artists can drive social change. Rauschenberg sought to act in the “gap” between art and life, valuing chance and collaboration across disciplines. As such, the Foundation celebrates new and even untested ways of thinking.
